Big Bus Tours operates sightseeing experiences across the world, with its mobile app supporting ticket purchases, booking management, tour information and customer engagement for millions of travellers.
Alongside ongoing platform development, we've provided long-term App Store support to help the business continue releasing updates quickly and confidently as Apple and Google's approval processes have become increasingly complex.
For a business operating across multiple markets, release delays aren't simply inconvenient. They can delay customer-facing improvements, revenue-generating features and critical fixes. As review systems have become more automated and compliance requirements have evolved, successfully releasing software has become about more than writing quality code. It also requires understanding how App Store review processes assess that code.
The {Challenge}
One example came during a hotfix release when Google rejected an update after incorrectly identifying a booking retrieval screen as a user login.
The functionality allowed customers to retrieve existing bookings using a booking reference and surname. It wasn't authenticating accounts or restricting access, but Google's automated review process interpreted two text fields and a submit button as login functionality.
The feature itself wasn't the problem. The challenge was helping the review process understand what it was seeing.
The <Solution/>
Rather than changing working software, we identified the root cause and supported the submission with everything reviewers needed to validate the feature correctly.
We created test bookings, supplied detailed review instructions and documented exactly how assessors could access the booking journey. Once that additional context was provided, the update passed review and was approved within approximately 24 hours.
More importantly, we established a repeatable submission process for future releases, reducing the likelihood of similar delays and giving Big Bus Tours a predictable route through App Store review.
The :[Results]
This approach now supports a much broader range of deployments across the Big Bus Tours platform.
We've helped manage phased feature rollouts, remote configuration updates and native checkout releases spanning multiple cities, where functionality is intentionally included within a release but only activated when operational teams are ready.
In these situations, reviewers often need additional context to understand why new functionality isn't immediately visible. We provide detailed submission guidance, test environments and supporting documentation that allows App Store assessors to validate features without delaying deployment.
Although much of this work happens behind the scenes, it's critical for organisations coordinating staged launches, market-by-market deployments and commercially important releases.
The {Why}
By treating App Store compliance as an ongoing engineering process rather than a final deployment step, Big Bus Tours can continue shipping updates across iOS and Android with confidence.
Our release management approach enables faster identification of approval issues, direct communication with review teams where needed and repeatable submission processes for complex customer journeys. Most importantly, it allows Big Bus Tours to focus on improving its customer experience while we help ensure completed features reach customers without unnecessary delays.
