IMS — Foundations for Scalable Mobile

IMS is one of the world's leading telematics and insurance technology providers, operating across the UK, Europe and North America. Their products rely heavily on mobile technology. Every journey recorded, every piece of driving behaviour analysed and every insight delivered to customers ultimately depends on reliable mobile platforms operating behind the scenes.

The {Challenge}

As the business continued to grow, so did its mobile estate. New applications, evolving platform requirements, SDK updates and increasing maintenance demands were creating additional complexity across the portfolio. While individual issues could be resolved as they appeared, the overall effort required to support and evolve multiple mobile products was steadily increasing.

Like many organisations managing mature platforms, IMS faced a familiar challenge. How do you continue innovating whilst also maintaining the applications that already support your business?

When IMS initially approached us, they had a specific technical requirement they wanted help solving. But it quickly became clear that the underlying challenge was much broader than any single project.

The <Solution/>

Rather than immediately recommending a large redevelopment programme, we focused first on stabilisation. Our objective was simple: help IMS gain greater control of their existing mobile estate before introducing significant new complexity.

Through our Mobile Assurance Programme (MAP), we introduced more structured testing processes, clearer issue reporting and improved visibility into platform performance. This work quickly highlighted problems that had previously gone undetected.

Within the first three months alone, we identified and documented 93 issues that had not been surfaced through existing testing approaches. More importantly, those issues were fed directly into development workflows, allowing teams to prioritise fixes based on real-world impact rather than assumptions.

The value wasn't simply finding bugs. It was giving IMS a clearer understanding of how their applications were performing and where effort should be invested to improve reliability. As confidence in the platforms increased, the relationship naturally expanded.

The :[Results]

The immediate benefits of the engagement were improved visibility, stronger testing processes and greater confidence in the health of the existing applications. The longer-term impact was more significant.

IMS gained a mobile ecosystem that was easier to support, easier to evolve and better positioned for future growth. Development teams could focus their efforts more effectively, operational risks were reduced and platform maintenance became more predictable. Perhaps most importantly, the organisation gained the confidence to continue expanding its mobile capabilities without introducing unnecessary complexity along the way.

The {Why}

What makes this project notable isn't a single feature release or technical implementation. It's how a targeted support request evolved into a long-term partnership. By helping IMS stabilise existing platforms, improve operational visibility and create stronger foundations for future development, we became more than a development supplier.

Today, we continue to support the evolution of IMS's mobile ecosystem, providing the expertise, oversight and technical guidance needed to help a global technology business continue growing with confidence. Because scalable mobile development isn't just about building new applications. It's about creating the foundations that allow those applications to succeed for years to come.
