There are many things our Indiespringer’s get up to in their spare time, but one thing we all love to do in some way or form, is play games! The number of video games released last year increased by 65% from the previous year, so there are hundreds and thousands of games out there right now. So if you’re looking for a bit of time out or wanting to sit down and have some fun with friends, why not check out this month’s game recommendations based on what our team are playing:

Storybook Brawlstorybook brawl 5 great games we are playing and loving right now
Online

Storybook Brawl is a turn-based auto battler created by a number of the ex-designers of Hearthstone. It’s got a very similar art style and I’ve used it to replace my love for DOTA Underlords as that’s no longer being updated. It’s currently available for free on Steam but is also expected to be released at some point soon for iOS and Android. It sees regular updates and is a solid entry into the auto-battler space.

CarcassonneCarcassone 5 great games we are playing and loving right now
Board game

The only board game in our mix this month, Carcassonne is a tile-placement game where players draw tiles and start to shape a medieval landscape in France. The game has many expansion sets and spinoffs and even updated artwork releases. For someone who’s not usually a fan of board games, this could be a great introduction. It’s easy to set up, quick to ‘learn’ as there are few rules and it’s lots of fun to play (you can even safely play with a glass of wine).

Pokemon Legends: ArceusPokemon 5 great games we are playing and loving right now
Video

Arceus is the first Pokemon game which is open world, meaning that you can frolic through fields and climb up mountains and soar through the air on the back of a Pokemon, all whilst just watching your surroundings and seeing wild Pokemon just.. doing their thing! Up until now, all the main series Pokemon games had been the same way, Pokemon would ‘hide’ in the tall grass, and you’d encounter them by walking into the tall grass, but you were never able to see them or predict that they were there. This time however, you can SEE them, you can INTERACT with them, you can even throw a mud ball in their face if you desperately wanted to (although I wouldn’t recommend it, they get quite mad) which is a whole new level of Pokemon which us hardcore fans have wanted to see forever!

Hades – Supergiant GamesHades 5 great games we are playing and loving right now
PC & Console

Hades is an action packed dungeon crawler video game that was developed by Supergiant Games and released not just for computer, but on consoles too. The game is full of greek mythology, players control Zagreus, the son of Hades as he attempts to try and escape the underworld to reach Mount Olympus. The story itself is intriguing, and players are challenged through a random series of rooms where they face enemies and scoop rewards. The gameplay can be challenging, you’ll need not just mechanical skill but good planning skills too. The game itself has received great acclaim for its art direction, music, narrative and characters. Definitely worth a go!

Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s EdgeStar Wars 5 great games we are playing and loving right now
VR

This is your chance to take on the role of a droid repair technician operating near the Outer Rim. This game will hopefully bring out your inner geek/jedi/child as you battle a group of pirates alongside classic characters such as R2-D2 and C3PO. You can even visit Seezelslak in his cantina where you can pick up missions, which will take you further out across the planet Batuu. I would say this game is the definitive Star Wars experience for VR!
